Why you need Dropbox

Dropbox is an online storage provided free for accounts 2Gb until 16Gb in space. Beyond that, there are packages available. There are many other online storage media that you can opt for like Gmail (Yes, Gmail can be used to store your files if you know how), Skydrive from Microsoft (gives you 25Gb space), etc etc. Yes, there are many out there who give you free space. If you are buying an ASUS netbook, there are giving you 250Gb free space!!!

So, why should you choose Dropbox and get a mere 2Gb in space, something that pales in comparison with others like Gmail (7+Gb), Skydrive (25Gb) and ASUS (250Gb).

The keyword here is convenience. Dropbox allows you to synchronise your files easily. If you use others, you have to copy and paste the files manually. Once you update a file, you have to re-copy-and-paste, so that it will override the old one. Not so with Dropbox...

You may also tweak your computer so that it will synchronise your Skydrive. But leave it to the experts. The tweak is long and tedious. Dropbox offers convenience, full stop.

Imagine you are working on a Computer A in the office. By installing Dropbox in Computer A and Computer B at home, you will have similar files in your computer B, automatically. Provided of course you have internet connection. If at home you edit the files (Computer B), when you arrive at the office the next day, you will find the files are already updated (Computer A), automatically.

The system is not suitable therefore if you are collaborating, whereby more than one person is editing similar file on different computers AT THE SAME TIME. In this scenario, the better option is using Google Documents (http://docs.google.com) which allows simultaneous editing of files.

Dropbox offers file-sharing too. In above instance, Computer A and Computer B can belong to different individuals, with different username. By sharing certain folders files in both computers are automatically synchronised.

Files are kept in Dropbox too. In case your computer is damaged, etc. a copy is always available for download. You don't have to have two computers to use Dropbox. In this case, you may use Dropbox as a backup.

Dropbox has made the process stunningly easy. No expertise is required. Just sign up, download Dropbox and install in your computer. Follow the instruction and voila, you are ready...

Dropbox gives you 2Gb as initial space. If you promote to your friends, you will get additional 500Mb per person, until your space is 16Gb. If you sign up under a referral email like mine, you will immediately get 2Gb + 500Mb space.

So, hurry now.... Sign up by clicking here and get additional 500Mb instantly.
